Serenity House is a comfort-care home for those who have a terminal illness and have been medically determined to be in the last three months of life. A service offered through Friends of Hospice of the Lakeway Area, Inc., Serenity House offers an alternative to a hospital or nursing home when care can no longer be provided in the patient's own home. Our services are provided free of charge.

The need for this type of care targets the most vulnerable populations. These populations include but are not limited to:

The uninsured/underinsured
Those with a lack of family or social support
The homeless
Those whose primary caregiver is no longer able to provide adequate care

Hospice and end of life care

Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Most Hospice patients remain in their own home if adequate and appropriate care is possible. Hospice has a multi-disciplinary approach to care and provides physical, emotional and spiritual care to the patient along with support to the family/caregiver.

The Friends of Hospice Serenity House is a resource for hospice patients when care in their own home is no longer an option. It is an alternative to institutionalized care where patients will receive personal care in a home-like environment.

End of Life Care Home/Comfort Care Home

An end of life care home/comfort care home provides shelter and custodial care to a hospice patient when the patient is no longer able to remain in their own home. Residents have a prognosis of three months or less and desire a natural end to life.

Professional services are provided by the hospice program chosen by the patient, family, and physician. Around the clock family-type care is provided free of charge by volunteers and sitters from the community who become the surrogate family
